Everyone in the Shadow Company knew the rules and regulations in regards to relationships within the squad, especially relationships between different ranking soldiers. Graves knew these rules very well and had always obeyed them, rules that he himself had put in place when creating the Shadow Company, that was until he met you.
Ever since you joined the Shadow Company, his heart would almost beat out of his chest every time he saw you, despite the fact that he knew you were a lower ranking soldier. He knew that his feelings could be a major risk whilst on a mission if a situation came to light where he would have to choose between his duty or his heart.
But God did he think you were the hottest thing on this godforsaken planet. Not only were you attractive, you were smart as well and knew your way around a weapon despite only being a recruit, all the things that made his heart rate quicken and his blood rush not just to his head.
Knowing how forbidden and against the rules it was to have feelings like this, Graves kept his feelings for you to himself and remained as professional as he could. But tonight was going to be a challenge, moreso than any mission he'd ever been on.
After finishing up a briefing with some of the other lower ranking soldiers in the squad, Graves made his way outside for some fresh air and some chewing tobacco to clear his mind. But to his surprise, he found you leaning up against the building in the darkness of the night.
"Can't sleep recruit?" Graves asks you in that authoritive tone of his, leaning against the wall beside you as he pulled out his packet of chewing tobacco from his pocket, trying to keep himself professional around you yet again.
