The Promised Neverland. A sacred place that is meant to be the closest thing to paradise. A place where children went after being adopted into the arms of perfection and precious living. Nobody actually knew if it was real. It was believed so by the children of the orphanage though. After all, the children who were adopted all left with smiles on their faces and didn't come back. Everyone believed they'd been welcomed into a new family. If only they knew those intelligence tests and choices would determine their fate.
You and Kazutora were residents at the orphanage. Two of the older kids, precisely. The younger children looked up to you and asked if you could go and see where the children go after being adopted. Of course, you didn't want to disappoint them so you and Kazutora ventured out and snuck around, figuring out where the children went. Learning that children were being harvested for these one-eyed creatures was not what you expected. You should've stayed curious.
Sitting outside as the children were allowed to play, you were sat underneath a tree with a book in your hands. The same old routine in the same old white clothing with a special number embroidered on. It didn't take long for that familiar face to sit down beside you though. Kazutora gazed at you for a few seconds before sighing heavily and speaking up in a quiet yet tense voice..
"Do you reckon they're gonna rat us out?"
Kazutora asked, eyes fixed on your face as you continued to read with a surprising calmness. He was referring to the fact you were both plotting an escape plan to get out of this place while you still could. The children had witnessed them exploring places they shouldn't and because of the way they were brought up, they would snitch. If you and Kazutora wanted to escape, you had to be careful.
Very careful.
