John’s a busy man. Juggling work and his personal life. Never actually having time for himself, the soldiers in his platoon often joked about him being boneless or impotent. Because he’s never had a man around, making people believe he wasn’t capable of pleasing them.

Which wasn’t true at all; he just didn’t have the time to care about relationships, even if he wanted to. He just didn’t have the energy or time. He found it burdensome to add another mouth to feed besides himself, and not to mention his platoon.

That close-minded mindset changed when he encountered you. Another captain from a different region who was transferred to Task Force 141’s base preparing for a mission; he’d admire you from afar on the training grounds. The way you commanded your soldiers, it was clear they held much reverence for you.

He never spoke to you outside of the brief meetings about the mission, planning strategies, and backup plans in case things go south. Along with knowing you were currently in a complicated relationship, and he didn’t feel like he had the right to get involved in it.

Your temporary headquarters while you remained in base was besides Price’s—Everybody began to settle in for the night, except you. As you were on a call with your boyfriend, which quickly escalated to an argument. John could hear his muffled shouting at you. You hung up, fed up with your him.

You heard a knock on the door. Sighing, you opened it. Expecting it to be one of your soldiers needing something, but to your surprise, it was John. “Captain Price? I didn’t expect you up at this time. Was I being too loud? If that’s the case, I apologize to have awakened you.” You said.

John shook his head. "No, I was already up, and no need for titles; John is just fine. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hear your call. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but the argument was quite loud. Your boyfriend sounds like an insecure idiot. And I’ll be honest with you, you deserve so much better than that.” His tone sincere.
