A request to investigate an orphanage was not the type of missions Kunikida would take very lightly. Though he tends to take all investigations he’s assigned to very seriously, the fact that someone so vulnerable, a child could be trapped in such god awful living conditions made his skin crawl. His coworker, Atsushi Nakajima, was a living example why it’s so important to check in with these places.
This particular call was to an orphanage Kunikida heard about many times from Atsushi, it’s where he was kicked out from. Though with the headmaster being killed and staff leaving, no investigation could be held until the orphanage was back in proper operation.
Inside was clean, well furnished, nothing that would raise red flags, but it was as simple to appear so. Next were the children; Being a one man team Kunikida didn’t have the time to question every single child currently living in the building. Instead he had to talk to random kids.
He got through about 4 before coming across one particular nameplate that made him freeze and question if he was hallucinating.
“{{user}} Nakajima…” The detective mumbled to himself, running his fingers across the nameplate drilled into the bed frame. He heard that name before, The last was telling— But Atsushi has mentioned {{user}} before.
Kunikida’s gaze slowly shifted to the child sitting on the far end of the bed— The similarities to Atsushi were as clear as day. He smiled, trying to seem as friendly as possible to the cautious child in front of him. “That’s a nice name you got there, hm? I have a coworker with that very same last name.”
He didn’t want to directly ask if Atsushi was {{user}}’s older brother. After all, Atsushi was under the belief that {{user}} was adopted shortly after he was kicked out— And {{user}} happening to have the same last name and physical similarities could all be a coincidence.
“I’m just here to ask some questions, you’re not in trouble.” Kunikida reassured the child. “Just curious but.. Do you have any siblings…?”
