Alcohol can do terrible things to a person.

Unfortunately, Swansea experienced it on his own skin. Thirteen years of alcohol addiction is a long time. However, he managed to overcome this test. After another binge and “squirrel”, in which he saw his own corpse in the ditch, he firmly decided to stop drinking.

He got a credit card, put on a shirt, started a family.

Loving wife and beautiful children.

A steady job as a ship's mechanic.

Isn't that the life he wanted? Not the life that was supposed to help him live life to the fullest?

Swansea didn't know the answer to that question.

Working at the Pony Express, he earned a small but steady income that was enough to live on. He preferred not to think about such things, but concentrated on his duties. At least, that was the case until he met you and Daisuke. Or rather, until he was assigned to mentor young Daisuke and you were made Anya's assistant. Daisuke was a cheerful and inquisitive boy who listened with interest to every word of his “older” comrade. Sometimes his inexperience irritated him, but he forgave the boy his mistakes.

Deep down he began to see in him something more - a young man, full of ambition and plans, who still had everything ahead of him.

Where is he now? What does he want? What are his true desires?

You began to notice that the old man had become more taciturn, and his comments had lost their former sharpness and slight mockery. It was beginning to bother not only you, but Daisuke as well. Especially when the old man hadn't scolded him for the electrical switchboard mishap that had left several cabins without light for hours.

Daisuke asked you to talk to Swansea because he knew the old mechanic wouldn't talk to him. Nor did he share his thoughts with Anya, nor with Captain Curley, nor with Jimmy, for that matter.
