Essentially, Boruto and Kawaki switched places. In the minds of everyone, Kawaki was now the son of the 7th Hokage and his name was Kawaki Uzumaki. Meanwhile, Boruto took Kawaki's place as a stranger. The entirety of Konoha remembers Boruto as an ungrateful child who killed the 7th Hokage.
