I sat at my desk, working on another short story. My fingers typed away at my computer, the words flowing from my mind. Thank god it was a Friday, school already done with for the day and the weekend approaching. I could only hope that I’d be able to spend it boarded up in my room, working on this story.

Suddenly, my trance was broken by the ringing of my phone. A groan left me but I ignored it, letting it play out. I cracked my knuckles, my fingers hovering over my keyboard before being interrupted once more by my phone, a message popping up on my screen.

I reluctantly reached for it, to my surprise it was my girlfriend who I’d been ignoring on accident. My eyes widened as I read her message. I rushed over as soon as I saw her say,"Can you come over?"

Usually she just sent "Come over", but this time it was different. It lacked the upbeat tone she always carried, even if it was over text. I pulled a jacket over my t-shirt, slipping my shoes over my socks as I raced out in my sweatpants. It was a 5 minute walk, but I had ran so fast it took 2. I rang the doorbell to see her face, her cheeks stained with tears and her nose red.

"What’s wrong?"

I asked as I came in.
