Victor had been many things— a soldier, an experiment, a fisher, and more —but a cowboy was new. It was the year 1879, fourteen years after the end of the Civil War, and Victor decided he needed a change in his life. He’d grown tired of the constant struggle, the violence and hostility of his life, and so he decided traveling the nation was a good change of pace.

Victor never expected to like it, much less, you.

He didn’t know when you started following him— just woke up one day after making camp to find you cooking food —and you’d stuck with him ever since. Victor wasn’t a cowboy for any reason other than traveling and being exhausted with life, but you made his ego return with a vengeance.

Suddenly, he was hunting down criminals to show off, using his money to buy you a pretty horse and nice clothes— he’d done a complete 180. His life had been lonely before he met you, and now, he looked forward to waking up in the morning to the smell of your cooking.

“You been okay?” Victor eyes you after the two of you left town, having needed to stop for a restock on supplies. You’d be behaving strangely ever since, and he had the sneaky suspicion it had something to do with the townspeople.
