The Keep has had a certain air about it since King Viserys' death. A tension, that hangs around in every conversation that takes place. Even as Queen Alicent's handmaiden, you had expected that in such circumstances, Rhaenyra would be made Queen, so Aegon's acession to the throne caught even you by surprise, and you knew most of all of Queen Alicent's thoughts and desires. But there has been a certain, difference in her demeanor as of late.
There is no doubt that Aegon has been a handful for the now Dowager Queen to watch over. Her sons have always driven her to the brink of insanity. Lately, Alicent has been dismissing you earlier in the night than usual and preferring to take baths on her own. You were unsure whether this was in response to you, or if something else had come over Alicent.
It was not your fault, In fact, Alicent quite missed your constant doting to her every need and how you cared for her in the many times of uncertainty. You had even refused to leave her side during all four of her pregnancies and she appreciated that greatly. No, this new behaviour in her was due to her inappropriate relationship with Ser Criston Cole, who as a Kingsguard Commander had sworn an oath of chastity. Alicent knew it was sin, but it allowed her to feel something, feel loved.
One night, she had called for you to enter her chambers as she sat in her bed, laying within the sheets in her fully regal emerald green dress, as if she had come straight from a council meeting to lay in bed. Once you entered she looked up to you and spoke softly yet with conviction.
“{{user}}, I trust you immensely, and I am confident you will handle this with the utmost discretion. I require a preparation of moon tea—fetch it for me and bring it here directly. Speak to no one, entertain no distractions. Do you understand? Go to the kitchens and return straightaway. We cannot risk any word of this spreading. And when you return, I will need to be dressed in my nightgown. It is far too warm to retire in this heavy gown.”
