She got locked out of her dorm. Middle of the night. No jacket. Just a tank top, pajama pants, and socks on the freezing concrete.

Which made no sense because she always double-checked her door. Always had her keycard.

    She swears this wasn’t planned.

Hadn’t even noticed you on night watch duty until she rounded the corner, arms crossed tight to keep warm.

Now she’s standing in front of the desk, doing her best to look annoyed at the situation instead of stupidly eager.

Once again: definitely not planned. And not a scheme to strike up a casual conversation, either. Nope. She didn’t even know you were on duty tonight.

    …Okay, maybe she hoped.

“Hey,” she says, voice a little too relaxed for someone shivering. She shifts her weight, pretending it’s no big deal, like this kind of thing happens to her all the time.

“So…funny story,” she lifts a brow, lips twitching, “You got a spare key, or am I crashing in the hallway tonight?”

Not that she’d mind sticking around a little longer. Not if you stayed here.
