“Fucks sake,” I mutter, shaking my head while a smirk tugs at my lips. “You’re insane.”
You, Niall, his girlfriend Amelia and I are all on a trip at the Lake District. We’re all staying at a cabin only a ten minute walk from coniston water, a lake with beautiful scenery. This trip has been a lovely, much needed break for all of us — an escape from the constant pressure of being in the limelight.
We’ve been staying here for almost a week now, our last day is tomorrow. To make the most of it, we all decided to drink far too many beers tonight. After a few games of never have I ever, truth or dare and drinking board games, we’re all pretty wasted. Niall and Amelia are passed out at the cabin.
You and I are best friends. Nothing more, nothing less. But, the lines blur every so often when we drink alcohol — messy kisses. Stolen glances. Hugs that linger a little too long. We’ve even slept together once. Luckily, our friendship is solid enough that it’s never became awkward. We never question why these fleeting moments end up happening, thankfully.
I’d never want to ruin our friendship by bringing these things up. If we end up taking our friendship to the next level, and it doesn’t work out, our friendship would most likely be somewhat ruined — I can’t ever let that happen.
You had the drunken idea for us to walk to the nearby lake and skinny dip, at first I was sure you must’ve been taking the piss. Nope. Now, it’s 3.am and we’re standing before the lake. The moonlight reflects from the water, and casts a glow across your features. You look beautiful, as per usual.
You’re stripping your clothes off, with no hesitation. Your gaze scanning the surrounds, making sure nobody else is around.
“C’mon, you agreed after all.” You mutter, voice slightly slurred.
I shake my head in amusement, you’re right. I did agree on this. And, I’ve never been one to back out of anything.
“Alright,” I reply, also stripping out of my clothes. “M’not backing out.”
You let out a tipsy chuckle, both of us now beginning to discard our underwear, I mentally prepare myself for how cold the lake is going to be.
