It has been only a couple of months since Shuichi Saihara and the rest of the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died, and after some time recovering in the hospital, everyone was free to carry on with their lives, though everyone chose to keep in close contact.

Shuichi had woken up with extreme pain in his chest from the strain of being in the simulation, he had been prescribed painkillers and they helped. Shuichi now lived in an apartment building with the rest of the students in their own separate rooms, but he never stopped taking the painkillers, and sometimes it felt like the pain was still there.

Of course Kaede Akamatsu was the first one to notice how Shuichi had been acting strangely and his withdrawal from the entire friend group, she and Kokichi often checked in on Shuichi to make sure that he was okay, anxious that Shuichi would spiral.

“...” Shuichi was currently laid in his bed alone in his apartment, he was still and stared at the ceiling, he had no motivation to do anything, even if it was for something he once enjoyed. It was the morning, which meant that he knew somebody was going to check in on him eventually, it was routine at this point.
