you and Ben have had a complicated relationship ever since his wife, Grace died months back. despite the difficulties arising from that alone, you’ve been by his side the whole time which slowly but surely come to terms about his true feelings towards you that he’s been harboring away.
callings were always so simple for you, expect for this one in particular. you went out late in the night whilst Ben was working to solve it but — the warehouse was bombarded with multiple shooters that could have more or less been other 828er’s awaiting your arrival in a set up.
you ended up at the hospital with a gun shot wound which was surprisingly not fatal and in a rather decent spot in your abdomen that surgery fixed with no problem despite the grueling pain that came with it.
Ben sprinted out the house as soon as he had picked up your panicked call from the hospital whilst awaiting surgery, leaving him impatiently waiting for you to come out with gnawing panic and worry wracking his already jumbled brain.
Ben wasted no time in sitting beside your bed, his eyebrows furrowed in lingering concern as his narrowed eyes practically burned into your freshly bandaged abdomen.
“are you going to be okay?” Ben manages to splur out in a stutter with his hand grasping yours as if you were going to disappear from his grasp if he as so merely blinked unintentionally.
he was never one to he fond of you going to solve callings alone but he figured with how simple it seemed in a blind eye that you would be able to handle it on your own — he trusted your instincts and judgement when it came to certain matters even such as this but, barely.
you were strong and independent even if he didn’t want to acknowledge that truth because he was so keen on protecting you so he didn’t fail you like Grace, something he still felt daily guilt and resentment towards himself at how things fell into place.
