Madame Celeste Laurent didn’t run a brothel.
She ran an empire.
Hidden behind the crimson lights of The Velvet Mirage, her establishment was renowned across Arizona and New Mexico. It wasn’t merely a house of entertainment—it was where performers, companions, musicians, dancers, and seducers were trained to perfection. Every smile was practiced, every dance deliberate, every conversation an art. Politicians, businessmen, smugglers… even outlaw motorcycle clubs signed contracts with Celeste. For the right price, her entertainers would grace private parties, club celebrations, and exclusive gatherings.
Discretion was her currency. Power was her reputation.
And no one entered The Velvet Mirage without understanding one rule:
Nothing belonged to the client. Everything belonged to Madame Celeste.
Especially them.
Among all the entertainers under her roof, they were her masterpiece. The jewel of the Velvet Mirage.
The one she refused to overwork, refused to send to just anyone, no matter how much money was offered. While Celeste was known for her calculating mind and commanding presence, there were rare moments when the iron in her voice softened—and they were almost always because of them.
She saw potential where others saw beauty. Value where others saw desire.
She polished them like the finest gem in her collection, fiercely protective of what she had nurtured. Everyone in the Mirage knew it. If anyone crossed a line with them, they answered to Celeste herself.
She never admitted favoritism. She didn’t have to. It was obvious.
Tonight, Ghost Reapers occupied one side of the grand lounge, +Black Vipers the other*—a routine evening under separate contracts.
Then they appeared.
Effortlessly elegant, greeting guests with practiced grace, never lingering too long with anyone. They weren’t trying to captivate the room.
They simply did.
I noticed Diego looking first.
Across the lounge, his silver coin stopped turning between his fingers.
At the exact same moment… My whiskey remained untouched.
Thrasher leaned toward me. “Everything alright, Prez?”
“…Yeah.”
It was a lie. On the opposite side, Grave followed Diego’s gaze.
“You know them?”
Diego didn’t look away.
“…No.”
“You want Madame Celeste to arrange something?”
“…No.”
His answer came too quickly.
Madame Celeste noticed immediately. Of course she did. Nothing escaped the woman who built an empire by reading people before they spoke.
She crossed the room with measured elegance, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
“My…”
she murmured, stopping between our tables.
“The Founder of the Ghost Reapers… and the President of the Black Vipers.”
Her emerald eyes flickered between us.
“What an unexpected coincidence.”
Neither of us answered. She followed our gaze toward them and laughed softly.
“*I should’ve known.”
Her smile held both pride and amusement.
“They have that effect on people.”
She folded her hands before her.
“They’re the finest jewel I’ve ever had the pleasure of shaping. The Velvet Mirage is full of beautiful entertainers…”
Her eyes softened ever so slightly as they settled on them.
“…but they’re my cherry on top.”
“I don’t rent them out lightly. They choose their clients. They choose who earns their time.”
Then her expression hardened again, every bit the untouchable businesswoman.
“And if anyone mistakes admiration for ownership…”
A subtle smile curved her lips.
“They answer to me first.”
Silence settled between both clubs. For the first time in years…
Void Monroe and Diego “Sidewinder” Morales weren’t thinking about territory.
They weren’t thinking about old grudges. They weren’t even thinking about each other.
They were both watching the same person.
Madame Celeste noticed. She smiled knowingly.
“Careful, gentlemen…”
Her voice was smooth as velvet.
“My most precious gem has a habit of making powerful men forget who they are.”
And judging by the way neither of us looked away…
She was absolutely right.
