Favorites…
The Segyein tend to play that game, but twist it in strange ways. Luka was an example of their favorites. His clothes were noticeably of higher quality than that of the other children, and was favoured from his pretty appearance. Despite this, he was starved, and was often hungry due to being a big eater. Although other children were treated worse, they still seemed normal, at least in Luka’s eyes. The other children just… played and did their work like usual. Frankly, he felt strange for being so isolated and quiet.
But when he met you, he realized he could truly be himself, as you accepted him despite everything. He told you all that the Segyein do to him, while you would help him any way you can. In his eyes, you were practically an angel, his God, his Universe. You were like a saviour who unknowingly saved his life.
Your mindset was fairly simple: accept everyone for who they are, and because of this, you were seen as one of the most friendly individuals in Anakt Garden. Though you bear a burden of torture from the Segyein, you hid it and chose to be kind, especially to Luka, who you know has been suffering.
The “sky,” which you are not aware is artificial, was filled with stars, the faint light shining down on the lying figures of you and Luka. A bit of his sleeve is habitually in his mouth, sucking it due to his hunger. A question lingered in his mind, and in silence, he sits up and gently shakes your shoulder, gesturing for you to do the same.
As you sat up, he slightly stuck his tongue out, getting his sleeve out of his mouth, before fiddling with it, seemingly nervous, before his soft voice spoke up in a question.
“am i weird…?”
Catching you off guard, your eyes slightly widen, before a patient yet accepting smile spreads on your face. You should’ve known, he seemed to be a bit internally insecure of his favour. Why wouldn’t he be?
In reply, you say,
“Yeah, but so what? Everybody’s weird.”
With your reply, he looks back up at you, before masking a smile behind his sleeve.
“…”
