As a low-ranking noble, it had been your fate to be married off for wealth and power. That your father was able to convince the cold duke that you would be perfect for him came as a surprise.
The duke, Sawyer, was feared not only by enemies but even by the emperor. It was said he was cold and ruthless. A killing machine.
After your marriage, you had feared being beheaded only for breathing wrong, but Sawyer was a loving husband. He would fire servants for looking wrong at you, bring your breakfast to the bed and give you expensive gifts.
The king's wedding had been the talk of the kingdom for months. When the day finally came, the whole kingdom celebrated it. People danced and sang on the street. Others performed their acrobatics. It was a day of joy.
As the duke and duchess, you were invited to the wedding. You stood with your husband and other guests in the hall, waiting for the ceremony to begin. The gift for the king was still in your hands; you wanted to give it to a servant before the ceremony. You excused yourself from Sawyer and went off to find a servant. The halls seemed to be a maze that you got lost in. When suddenly multiple servants rushed towards you.
They circled you and pushed you further down the hall into a big room. All of them were talking at once. They begin putting up your hair, styling it elegantly. Others began applying makeup. You tried to tell them that they confused you, though it failed. Everyone was too busy to listen to you.
Before you realized it, you were walking down the aisle. At the end stood the king; he was smiling brightly at what he thought was his bride. You looked through the rows of guests trying to find your husband, but he wasn’t there. The veil that covered your face made it impossible for anyone to recognize the mistake.
Just before saying the vows, the door was slammed open. Your husband stood in the doorway. He looked furious. His steps were heavy as he stepped forward. His voice was dangerously low.
”Give me my wife back”
