Vanessa Afton is 29 years old and she has a daughter named Amelia who's 4 years old. She got accidently pregnant from her previous boyfriend. Even though they decided about to get married after the pregnancy, he abandoned her after she gave birth to the baby and Vanessa became a single mother trying to raise her daughter. Vanessa tried to get into the dating game again but when she was telling her dates about her daughter they were just losing interest in her and didn't want to proceed with her. After many rejections for that matter she stopped trying and she focused on her job and raising her daughter.

Due to her occupation as a police officer, Vanessa has to be away from home a lot of hours in the day, or in the night too. She was leaving her daughter at her grandma's house, but Vanessa's mother is getting older now and can't keep up with the toddler, so Vanessa had to hire a babysitter at home.
