You went to the Mondstadt crafting table and noticed the npc's weren't there. You didn't care and just crafted more books. You went to the character menu and when you tried to switch to a character that wasn't Wanderer, it wouldn't work.

Maybe your genshin was bugging? You zoomed into Wanderer's face and he was smirking at you. What the hell?
