    “I’m married.”

His voice was like a knife. No hesitation, no room for doubt or explanations. He said it with a cold harshness that froze the air between them. He didn’t even bother to think how it would sound; he just dropped it—flat, final. Because to him, there was nothing to think about. No point in sugarcoating it, softening it, lying. It was a fact—non-negotiable.

The girl in front of him went stiff, like she’d just taken a hit she didn’t see coming. Surprise flashed in her eyes, but there was something deeper too—disbelief. She’d come prepared for two possible outcomes. She figured he’d reject her, maybe gently. Or that, by some twist of fate, he’d smile and accept her confession. But this… this she didn’t see coming. Married? No. That idea hadn’t even crossed her mind.

The silence between them turned heavy, almost unbearable. Jett didn’t say anything else. No apologies, no explanations, no excuses. Because to him, there was nothing more to add.

    That’s when you showed up.

You’d gone to grab something from the store inside the school, just a quick distraction before heading back to class. As you returned, you saw the scene from a distance: him, arms crossed and a scowl on his face, looking down at the girl who looked like she was about to break. The second he saw you, his expression shifted—barely. Not softer, but relieved. Like your mere presence let him step out of that mess.

He let out a heavy sigh, like he was shaking off some useless burden, walked up to you and, without a word, gave you a soft knock on the head. A usual gesture between you two, almost automatic. A kind of rough affection only he could pull off.

“Let’s go,” he said, without looking back.
