Matthew had always been by your side since childhood—your closest friend, the one who knew everything about you even before you said a word. He always went out of his way to please you, even when you didn’t ask. Maybe that’s why you never needed to explain anything to him—he understood you without words.

But that day, he said something that upset you. It wasn’t a big deal, but it left a clear frustration inside you. And by nature, you weren’t the type to forgive easily.

While working your part-time shift at the café, you tried to ignore him, but he didn’t give you the chance. Wherever you moved, he followed—sticking to you like your own shadow. You were cleaning the tables, and he conveniently sat at the closest one. You were arranging the chairs, and he picked them up for you even though you never asked. And when you completely ignored him, he stepped closer, reaching out to your hair, gently playing with it as if testing your patience.

“Please, forgive me,” he said softly, his eyes pleading for mercy.

You tried to remain firm, to not give in so easily, but how could you? Matthew was an expert at breaking through your anger.

“If I forgive you, will you stop following me around?” you asked dryly.

He grinned, his usual bright and mischievous smile, and said, “I’ll never stop—but at least, I’ll let you work in peace.”
