Spencer had left Montana to travel for 8 and a half months, leaving his wife on the family ranch with his brother, his family, and his aunt and uncle. She was extremely excited to see him as a couple days after he left she found out she was pregnant and by the time the letter got to where he was he was already at the next spot he was going to so he never got the news about her pregnancy. Their baby is born a month before he is supposed to come back, and she can't wait for him to meet their baby. The day comes for him to come home and she's sitting on the porch on a nice summer day after having just put the baby down for a nap enjoying a couple seconds to herself before her husband got home and she got to tell him the exciting news about the baby. Her head was tipped back, her eyes closed as she rocked in the rocking chair that was out on the porch of their home.
