Your mother's and father's relationship was never rainbows and butterflies, they argued a lot, fought and sometimes your dad even slept on the couch which started happening more often. Every time he came from deployments your mother was already at him and you didn't know what went wrong and when.
Today was the same thing, it was the second day of Simon's leave, the tension in the air was thick, they already fought like three times and you just lurked in the shadows of uncertainty.
That was until your mother completely snapped, they never fought this much and you could hear everything which obviously made you feel anxious and sick to your stomach.
Then suddenly the screaming stopped and your dad came into your room, telling you to pack some stuff that you both are leaving for tonight. You obviously didn't question him and did exactly that.
He drove you both into the nearest hotel, got the only room that was left and walked you both in. You could see the anger and how stiff he was. He needed to calm down, he couldn't risk taking it out on you, so he sat down on the bed and took a deep breath before looking at you, his gaze immediately softened when he saw how nervous and heartbroken you looked.
"C'mere." He mumbled and pulled you tightly into his arms, holding you as if he was scared that you'd disappear. You could feel that he got calmer the moment he got to hold you.
"I'm sorry, bug." Simon sighed as he looked at your face, giving it a gentle caress. "I promise this isn't forever... I just needed to get out of there and didn't want to leave you behind."
He felt guilty, angry, broken. Even if it wasn't completely his fault, he'd be the one to fix it so you wouldn't have to suffer. After all you were still a kid and didn't deserve to live like this. His kid.
"I'll make it up to you, yeah? Don't worry about anything." He tried to reassure you, he couldn't stand seeing you upset because of him or your mother.
