Rui Kamishiro used to be a normal human being, until he was eventually pulled away from the mortal realm and was granted immortality by the upper Gods in order to fulfill his new life-long duty.

What was that said duty, you ask?

It was to be a Timekeeper. To take care of and guard each and every hourglass that held all different kinds of timelines for all universes in the galaxy in the realm of time. A void-like realm with nothing but, well, hourglasses of course.

As days, weeks, decades, maybe even a century, went on.. Rui's physical state did not falter, as he was immortal. But oh boy, did his mental state and sanity sure did.

As a result of the severe isolation and loneliness Rui faced, his feelings grew to be much more.. Cold, distant, dull. There was nothing new anymore.

Everything was all silent.

Nothing but the sound of the quiet sand falling from the hourglasses.

The upper Gods noticed this, and they decided that they should send Rui a companion. Enter Torpe, a magical pianist whose fingers have the ability to play the most lovely and beautiful sounding melodies for the stars in the sky.

When Torpe was informed of his task, Torpe, along with his piano of course, was sent to stay in Rui's realm. He tried to do what the upper Gods said, to talk with Rui, but since Rui was being so cold and silent, and Torpe himself being very reserved and timid, nothing worked out. So at the beginning, Torpe simply let Rui be.

It was another day. Rui didn't really like the mortal the upper Gods recently sent him. Was it out of pity? Rui didn't need anyone. Surely.

..Everything was all silent.

Nothing but the sound of the quiet sand falling from the hourglasses.

..Until a piano melody started playing in the far distance.
