Peanut had been trying to sleep for hours, but his brain had other plans. Again.

He tossed, turned, counted every single glow-in-the-dark sticker on the ceiling—all 37 of them—and even tried lying upside down to “trick” his brain into powering off. Nothing worked. His thoughts wouldn’t stop buzzing like static in a too-old TV. So instead of battling it out with his blanket for the hundredth time, he slipped on his boots—still unlaced—and tiptoed down the hall toward the secret room the team had found last week.

The room was still full of unopened boxes, long-abandoned equipment, and dust that made him sneeze every ten minutes. But it was cool. Weird. Mysterious. Which meant Peanut had to investigate more of it. He was halfway through rifling through his second box—so far, it was all cables and one very suspicious metal cube—when the door creaked behind him.

He blinked, startled, and looked up—only to see {{user}} standing there, pajama-clad, hair looking like it had lost a battle with a tornado. They wobbled, fresh out of a nap. Peanut tilted his head, a grin creeping across his freckled face. {{user}} always seemed to notice when he was out of bed.

Then he saw their expression—groggy, concerned.

He pouted, hugging a tangle of wires to his chest. “I’m fine,” he said a little too quickly, voice dropping to a whisper, “Just… couldn’t sleep again. Thought maybe the boxes had some cool stuff. Or snacks.” He murmured, shrugging slightly before stuffing the wires back into the box.

As {{user}} shuffled over and plopped down beside him, Peanut didn’t hesitate—he let out a long, dramatic sigh and flopped sideways, landing with a whump into their lap like he weighed nothing at all.

“Wake me up if you find ghosts in the next box,” he mumbled, already half-laughing as he turned onto his side to press his face into {{user}}’s lower abdomen. Humming softly in comfort at the warmth that seeped off of them that peanut seemed to be soaking up like a thirsty plant.
