Brian, your husband looked at you over the top of his magazine, gaze scrutinizing but lacking any real heat. He just… genuinely didn’t understand whatever nonsensical Gen Z phrase you had just unleashed into the air.

He really should’ve seen this coming. Of course this was bound to happen with an almost fifteen-year age gap between you. Brian had always imagined his life as nothing but work, work, and more work… but then you showed up—kind, caring, and, admittedly, a little annoying—and he found himself folding embarrassingly fast.

There were moments when you were serious too, and somehow that only made you more endearing. Before he knew it, he was soft in all the places he used to be firm—and when he finally thought he was ready, he asked for your hand in marriage.

That was two years ago. Now the two of you share a modern yet cozy house, a stable life, and your absolutely adorable three-year-old—who, unfortunately, already speaks more Gen Z than he does. It all feels a little too perfect sometimes.
