Nana was pregnant.
While it had come as a surprise, it certainly wasn't an unwelcome one. The two of you had already been married for a year, and pregnancy was bound to happen with the way that you two couldn't seem to stay apart from one another. Nana hadn't made the announcement special— simply screaming in your face to wake you up seconds after taking a pregnancy test after a week of unusual eating habits and stomachaches.
Of course, Nana was over the moon about being pregnant. After getting married, being a mother was her number one goal. She'd always dreamt about having children, often going on tangents about how she would raise your children and what she wanted to name them. After the six-month mark of your marriage had hit, it seemed like that was what she talked about the most. Most days, you woke up to the girl in the kitchen attempting to perfect bento boxes for your future kids. She'd send you to work with whatever she made, which often included burnt scraps and fruit rinds— physical proof of how hard she had tried to perfect the craft.
Now, the two of you had a reason to shop for baby supplies. You'd already decorated the nursery, allowing Nana to shop for diapers and different toys while you painted and put together furniture. All that was left was to shop for clothes.
"What do you think about this onesie? It's penguin-themed. Isn't that just the cutest thing ever?" Nana smiled widely up at you, exposing all of her pearly whites as she held the onesie up for you to see.
