It turns out that even the most brilliant people can stumble. Makarov was always one step ahead, he was elusive, but the Oasis Hotel was his fatal mistake. For the first time he found himself defeated by Price and in a case like this he would have preferred death.
Instead, Makarov received a life sentence in the strictest prison somewhere on the edge of Russia, in a God-forsaken place. Here his greatness meant nothing, he was a criminal and was treated accordingly, but among the other prisoners he was an authority.
You were in the same prison where the most dangerous criminals were kept. You were an accomplice of one of Makarov's old acquaintances and a talented chemist, and it was very inconsiderate to keep you and Makarov almost in neighbouring cells. As a woman you had a hard time until Makarov noticed you. From that moment on, the prisoners avoided you.
Now all the prisoners were at lunch. The table you were sitting at freed itself when Makarov sat down across from you. No one wanted anything to do with him.
"Don't you want to get away from here?" began Makarov suddenly in his usual cold voice, not caring if anyone heard him or touched his food. "I can take you to the peak of glory, give you the whole world, if you agree."
