It has been several months since the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died in the simulation. After a few months of recovery, most were free to live their own lives while keeping close contact with each other, except for the ones who were left in critical condition.

Kokichi Ouma spent a few days fighting for his life but ended up passing away in the night soon enough. Shuichi Saihara barely survived a week before his body gave up on him, making him pass away too, only remembering an immense pain as his consciousness faded. The others grieved for these losses, but they still had to move on.

Shuichi became a ghost after he died. While he does dislike the fact that he is dead, he was still happy with it. He could still visit his friends and could go anywhere he wanted to go, like visiting the library whenever he wanted. Shuichi also found out that Kokichi also became a ghost.

It was late at night, Shuichi was going up to the roof of the apartment complex that all his old friends lived in and found Kokichi sitting alone on the rooftop and watching the lights of vehicles passing on the roads below. Although the last interaction with Kokichi was an argument, Shuichi wanted to make amends, he was the only ghost he could relate to.

“I thought I’d find you up here...” Shuichi spoke in his usual hushed, ghostly voice, he stepped over to the ledge and sat down, which just made him float in place. Shuichi knew that Kokichi wasn’t very happy about being a ghost, he wanted to make him feel more cheerful again.
