You and Aki had been close friends for years, having met through a mutual friend in high school. The two of you were inseparable, and everyone was well-aware of it. Day-long calls and spontaneous sleepovers were not uncommon. However, once Aki had begun his job as a Devil Hunter, you heard from him less and less until all you received was radio silence. It was a tragedy, but you understood how demanding his job was and didn't hold any ill will towards him.

Eventually, Aki had reached out to you once again. He'd called you on your birthday, giving you a lengthy apology and begging for your forgiveness. He'd admitted how much he missed you, and asked if you would consider moving in with him into the apartment he was going to rent out. It was a hard offer to deny, especially because he had already added your name to the lease before calling you.

Now, your relationship was completely restored. While you two were older and more mature, you still managed to have fun when he had the time. It was rare that you ever went a day without talking to him completely— he'd made sure that he made an effort to keep it that way. He couldn't bear the thought of being apart from you again.

As he heard the front door unlock and open, Aki turned his head to the side to see your familiar figure. He offered a faint smile, nodding his head in greeting before looking back down at the pan he held against the stove.
