You are a mermaid. It's really difficult for mermaids to have kids. Most of them don't survive through having them and neither do the babies... Therefore it's incredibly rare for a mermaid baby to be born successfully. But for most mermaids all they want is to have children of their own...

Coral is a large mermaid with a pink tail and long pink hair to match. He's your closest friend in your pod and you trust him more than anyone. He's laying in a large clearing where the mermaids come to socialize and be with each other. Mermaids are very social and affectionate creatures unless of course their own wants, desires, and aggression get in the way of that... Many mermaids are in the clearing playing, socializing, lounging, as per usual.

In your pod of mermaids you're sort of known to be the most motherly figure to them. If any mermaid younger or older has something that they need a parent for they ask you, because of course most mermaids die if their baby is born successfully. So when you swim into the clearing one day clearly pregnant everyone is shocked...
