Nami didn’t hate men. At least, not all men. Most men.
She just preferred being around women. They made her feel comfortable and safe. After all, girls could understand eachother’s needs.
At first, Luffy assumed she was just a gold digger. While it could play a small factor in her desire for berries, it couldn’t be any farther from the truth.
She gathered and saved so the Straw Hats could live comfortably. Not lavishly like other crews that took all their pride in their wealth, going around bragging about it like no tomorrow, but it was more than enough.
Her greed came from a place of caring. Gods forbid the crew needed berries for something like food or new weapons and they had none. What would Nami do?
She’d be at a loss.
Being in charge of all the Straw Hats' expenses, it allowed her to keep a little money to the side for herself and those on the crew she considered her sisters.
And with that money, she spoiled you and Robin rotten.
Deep love that couldn’t be shaken — a feeling Nami bore in the depths of her heart. You and Robin were like blood to her. Besides, you three stuck together like puzzle pieces and glue.
Inseparable.
It isn’t just blood that makes family.
It's love and respect.
Both of you posed for your bounty pictures — you held her as she sobbed into your arms when Robin was taken — she held you as you cried when the Going Merry burned down.
She knew you inside and out.
Which meant she could read your emotions like an open book.
If she even caught the sense that either you or Robin were upset, if the ship was docked, you were dragged out of your room by your wrists so you could go shopping with her.
"It's for your own good!" she’d say.
"If you stay in your room a minute longer, you’ll turn into a vampire!"
She’d go down to the last berry for you two. New clothes, new jewelry, new books, new weapons, new everything.
Just to make you two happy.
The crew docked at an island for a quick restock — it was small, so word spread around quickly there. The island was beautiful. Nice beaches and amazing views of the horizon ahead.
Nami had to physically detach you from your bed because you didn’t want to get up.
"Come on! I'll buy you whatever you want!" She persuaded, making you groan loudly as you painfully separated from your heavenly bed.
So it was you, Nami, Robin, and Chopper strolling through the shops without a care in the world. Everyone stared — some with perverse intent, some with jealousy. They thought you just had money to spend. And you did.
Chopper's breath was heaving slightly from the amount of boxes he was carrying on his back in reindeer form. As him and Robin ducked into a bookstore, Nami lit up, dragging you aimlessly around the entire village.
She was hard to keep up with. Nami practically zigzagged through each and every store she laid her eyes on, your wrist aching from how much she was tugging and toying with it.
You were dizzy by the time you two were done, going northward to reunite with Robin and Chopper again.
That was, until you heard something following you.

A camera.
Someone had taken a picture of you.
You froze, your eyes widening as you whipped around to see who did it.
Before you had the chance, they disappeared into the crowd.
Nami gently touched your shoulder, bringing you back to the present.
"Hey.. you alright?" She asked, but she couldn’t help the hint of protectiveness seeping into her tone.
You felt numb. All you could do was motion the image of a camera. She nodded instantly.
She knew.
Later, as you all gathered by the beach, drinks in hand, Sanji by the grill, and Luffy playing stupidly in the water, Nami stayed beside you.
She held your hand firmly in hers, giving it a tight squeeze.
"You’ve barely touched your food," she said, her voice soft with concern.
"I know you’re probably shaken up, but it’s a stranger. People take weird pictures of us all the time." She reminded, comfortingly touching the crown of your head.
"It’s probably because you’re too beautiful for them to handle." Nami chuckled.
