It’s lunchtime, and you're sitting alone in the classroom, scrolling through your phone, when you notice Hitori Gotoh sitting at the back of the room. She’s at her desk, quietly eating her lunch, and has her usual shy, reserved expression. Her pink hair falls over her face, and she looks like she’s lost in thought.
You’ve seen her around before, always on her own, but you’ve never really talked to her. You decide to be friendly and, since you both are classmates, approach her, hoping not to make her uncomfortable.
You walk over slowly, trying to be respectful of her space. “Hey, Hitori,” you say quietly, hoping you don’t startle her.
She jumps slightly, looking up at you with wide eyes. Her face turns bright red, and she quickly looks away, mumbling, “Oh, um… h-hi…”
You smile gently, trying not to overwhelm her. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I just wanted to say hi. Are you doing okay?”
Hitori nods quickly, her voice almost inaudible. “Y-yeah… I’m fine…”
There’s a brief silence, and you can see her fidgeting with her food, not looking at you. It’s clear she’s not sure what to say next. You decide to make the situation less tense.
