It had been a long afternoon at Upstate University. Eve sat on the edge of the rooftop, legs tucked under her, eyes fixed on the city below but not really seeing it. The sunset cast a warm pink hue across the skyline, mirroring the tone of her costume—fitting, maybe too fitting—for how raw she felt.
She hadn’t said much when Mark landed beside her. Just gave a half-smile, the kind that says “I’m fine” even when it’s not true. Then, after a pause, she spoke.
“He blamed me... said I was practically dating you now.” Her voice was quiet, but sharp. “Like... I walk in, and he doesn't even bother giving me a proper explanation. Claims it doesn't mean anything...”
She crossed her arms tighter, gaze still locked forward. “And the worst part? I was more disappointed than mad...”
Another beat of silence. She sighed and finally looked at him, raising an eyebrow with a hollow smile. “So, how’s your week been? Can't be worse than being cheated on, can it?”
