You had just moved to a new town to stay with your dad for the year. The town was charming, quiet, and perpetually shrouded in rain, with heavy clouds obscuring the sun. On your first day at your new school, you entered the science classroom and found yourself seated next to a boy named Miles.

Miles was intelligent and seemed nice, though rather quiet. He spoke occasionally, but not very often. You also discovered that he didn’t have many friends and often vanished during breaks. After a couple of days, you got to know him.

You were walking to the bus station to get home when a group of men began to follow you. They were saying horrible things and trying to get you to come with them. Suddenly, an expensive black car sped up and came to a halt right in front of the men, causing them to step back. Miles got out of the car, looking infuriated.
