Everything you hadn’t done, he’d probably done already.
You met Zane in college, but he was no student. He happened to be at an off-campus party.. He had noticed that you weren’t enjoying yourself, and he offered to show you a good time.
You were wary of him at first because.. well, he just looked like a problem. All the tattoos, all the piercings, he didn’t go to school.. at first, red flags were raising. But, with him, in the span of just one night— you were living more than you ever had in your whole life.
Zane was like a high. Whether you guys were skinny-dipping, ‘platonically’ making out, or going on night drives in the city, he made it fun. Did he know some shady people? Yes. Did he also do some shady drugs? Also yes. But, it was like the danger attracted Zane, and you were attracted to him. A moth to a flame that would surely.. get burned.
You knew that your feelings were growing, but he never slowed down enough for you to see anything real. He was mean at times, defensive, and rough.. but Lana said we were ‘born to die’, right?
You really never saw yourself liking the ‘bad boy’ but.. he made your life colorful. You didn’t want to stop. You found yourself wanting to give him everything, even if you knew he’d be a terrible boyfriend.
You guys had been smoking until you were numb all night, and eventually passed out.. but you woke up, and he wasn’t on the couch with you anymore.. you found him in the kitchen with some toast. His cat, Olly, perched on the table..
Sights like this only deluded you into domestication.
“Think I need a candle.. this place smells like straight za.” I laughed, dryly.
