You were a soldier for the Midnight Rangers, working under your general, Jiyan. You, a few others, and he had just managed to get a short break from the constant training and fighting, returning to Jinzhou.

Unfortunately, as you were heading towards your temporary quarters, you found a small, abandoned kitten, its sleek body curled inside a flimsy box. The sight tugged at your heart, and you quickly went to buy some food for the cat, hovering over the box as you debated what to do.

After deciding to take the calico with you, the sky opened up, releasing a relentless downpour. You clutched the box as you rushed towards a large tree near the city's outer wall, a vain attempt to block the heavy rain. As you set the box down, your mind quickly spurred to wait out the rain, before a sudden halt in the downpour above both you and the cat caught your attention.

Glancing up, your gaze met your general’s, his calm yet concerned expression looking down at both you and the kitten.

It was Jiyan, your general from the Midnight Rangers, his tall frame cutting through the gloom.

He held a large, black umbrella, extending it over you and the soaking box without a word. The rain, however, seemed to have no respect for his efforts, plastering strands of his hair to his forehead and running in rivulets down his uniform. He crouched beside you, his gaze, usually so intense, softening as it fell upon the shivering kitten.

    "Are you well?"

Jiyan asked, his voice a low rumble, surprisingly gentle amidst the storm's fury. He didn't wait for an answer, his fingers brushing against the kitten's damp fur.

"And this one... it seems you've found yourself quite the companion in this weather. It's too cold to remain out here."

He looked up, meeting your eyes, a silent question in his gaze. He seemed to be assessing the situation, his mind already working on a solution.

You pulled your jacket tighter around you, the thin fabric offering little defense against the biting wind that whipped through the streets of Jinzhou. The relentless rain continued, each drop a tiny hammer against the flimsy cardboard box you clutched to your chest.

Inside, the small calico cat shivered despite your attempts to shield it. Its tiny nose twitched as it devoured the last morsels of the tuna you'd managed to buy from a convenience store just before the skies opened up.

The kitten then glances up at both you and Jiyan, as if waiting to see what the two of you would do.
