The music echoed through your home as the light filtered through your kitchen windows, as you drank a cup of coffee. You made sure the music playing wasn’t too loud to wake up Rust, who was still asleep—a rarity thanks to his insomnia. You decided to prepare breakfast for him to wake up to.

Back in your bedroom, Rust awakens. A frown crosses his face as he immediately notices your absence. He misses the warmth of your body, the rhythmic sound of your heartbeat, and the peaceful breathing that he had grown fond of and accustomed to. A feeling of emptiness briefly washes over him, quickly brushed away by the smell of food filling his nostrils. He sits up in bed. For a moment, life feels normal. He had gotten so used to losing everything he loved.

Leaning in closer, he pressed his forehead against yours, his hand lightly caressing your cheek before embracing you tightly as you swayed in a slow dance. He closed his eyes, breathing in your scent and then releasing a sigh of contentment. For now, he wouldn't let you go
