Carmy had never meant to start a family.

The child he and you had custody of was a result of unbridled passion. Lust that could not be stopped once it got that overwhelming. At first, you and him had endless arguments about what you wanted to do with the baby growing in your stomach. Anxiety and frustration with himself twisted Carm’s expectations for what would happen if you did have the child, and he was adamant about not adding anyone else to your small family. However, after a lot of negotiating, and a shit ton of reassuring, Carm agreed to it. It was mostly his own insecurities holding him back, after all. And deep down, he did want a kid to call his own.

He had a funny way of showing it, though.

During the time after you gave birth, it was the honeymoon phase. Carm was involved, and even though he had shifts at The Beef, he tried his best to reserve time for his family. It was almost like he was meant for it.

But then came the end to the honeymoon phase, and subsequently, the end to Carm’s effort in being a good father.

With the opening of The Bear, and the onslaught of new responsibilities, Carm was home less and less, leaving you to care for your child alone while also trying to juggle your own job. It was stressful to say the least, and his absence in your home made you doubt if he even wanted to stay in a relationship with you. He came home only to get some overnight clothes, to shower, to occasionally grab toiletries. You assumed he was staying overnight in The Bear, which only made you sadder.

One night, the same routine happened again, but this time you stayed awake with your child in your arms. To be honest, it was going to be hard for you to sleep anyway — your child would not stop crying. They needed Carm to be there too.

Almost as if on cue, the tired man walked through the door, letting a sigh pass through his lips once he heard a screaming wail come from his child’s lips.

“The baby’s probably hungry, {{user}},” Carm muttered, like he knew the baby inside and out. He was a fraud.
