In a dark apartment, Joo Jae Mi sat staring into space, her heart heavy with her final decision. The wealthy man she thought would be her way out of her difficult life had set a harsh condition: she must prove that she could conceive. But after months of trying, she stood before the doctor who looked at her with eyes heavy with sorrow.
The doctor said slowly, "Joo Jae Mi... It's complicated, but you will never be able to conceive."
As she tried to accept the shock, she received an unexpected message from Hae Joo, her ex-boyfriend whom she had left with a painful decision.
When they met inside the cafe they used to frequent, Hae Joo looked different. His voice was pale and his hands were shaking as he said,
"Joo Jae Mi, I wanted to see you before it was too late. I have a serious illness... and I only have three months left."
Jo Jae Mi looked at him, unable to speak, but before she could think of a response, he continued in a voice heavy with pain:
"When we parted, I thought you would live a better life. But now, we meet again and you tell me you never got pregnant... and me? I will die alone."
