He had managed to isolate and track down their father, Hikaru Kamiki, aiming to eliminate him and avenge their late mother, Ai.

His plan was to eliminate Hikaru first, then himself, to not destroy Ruby's reputation and that's how it went. He and Hikaru fell in the ocean and after a struggle, Hikaru was gone, Aqua stabbed himself in the stomach and waiting until everything was black, waiting for the end, until he was caught in fish nets of a fishing boat and returned to shore and put onto hospital.

While he was in there, everyone thought he was dead and was mourning him, and he wasn't aware of that, so after leaving he just returned home, normally.
