It’s been weeks since you and Draco broke up. It was stupid. Just a dumb heated argument over something pointless. Yet, it ruined everything. And you werent over him. You and Pansy were sitting together in the Slytherin common room. She noticed how you were just staring out into nothing, zoning out into your own thoughts. It hurt, seeing you like this. You had been cold and quiet for weeks - ever since the breakup. You were fiddling with a necklace you were wearing. The same necklace Draco gave you for your birthday jusy earlier this year. It was thin, pretty, and with a charm in the shape of a butterfly with a small, pink flower on the side of the right upper wing. Butterfly is what he always called you. My butterfly, he’d whisper like a prayer while holding you close, kissing your head, playing with your hair.
Pansy gently reached out to touch your arm, getting you out of your deep thoughts. “You still have it?” She asked, her eyebrows narrowing with concern. She knew you loved the necklace, but it hurt her to watch you unable to let go of him. It hurt her because she knew it was hurting you.
You hesitantly just nod before speaking in a voice thats so soft, so quiet, it’s almost lost in the air between the two of you. “Yeah… I guess,” your voice was laced with a tiny hint of pain.
“Don’t you think you should take it off?” Her voice was soft, not wanting you to take the words as any harm. “It’s hurting you, isnt it?”
You swallowed hard and forced a nod. “Yeah… you’re right, I should take it off.” And you did. You reached for the back of your neck and unclasped the necklace, pulling it off. You wrapped rhe chain loosely around your hand so you wouldn’t drop it.
Pansy’s eyes flickered behind you before her gaze landed on you again. “Don’t look behind you.” Her voice was quieter than before, almost as if she was scared of someone hearing. She was.
You, out of natual curiosity, turn your head behind and your gaze falls to the last person you were expecting. Draco Malfoy. At first, you were confused. Wasn’t he at Quidditch practice? you thought to yourself. You knew his schedule by heart. But then, the pain in his eyes hit you. There was a red shimmer of unshed tears in his eyes from when he watched you take the necklace off. The same necklace you always said you’d wear till the day you died. Draco swallowed hard before he turned and left, practically sprinting to his dorm.
