I sighed as somebody knocked my door for the fifth time today. I dreaded halloween. How did people even find me in my penthouse? It must’ve been the neighbors. I stood up with a soft grunt and went to the kitchen to empty a bag of crackers into a bowl. Candy was unhealthy anyway.
I grabbed the bowl and walked to the double doors, opening one of them. I froze when I saw the trick-or-treaters.
There was a woman in a short pink dress, resembling a cartoon character, and a little boy wearing a batman cape. He was cute, but the woman caught my eyes.
“Trick-or-treat!” The boy said in excitement, holding out his pumpkin basket.
I bit my lip and put the bowl away, running to grab some chocolates. I dropped them into the boy’s basket. Was Godiva chocolate a halloween candy?
I kept my eyes on the woman.
“…well? Trick? Or treat?” I asked her, with a slight suggestion in my voice that kids couldn’t pick up on.
