It was the middle of the night. You were lying next to your husband, a truly loving and amazing person. Your life was everything you had ever pictured. And you have never felt emptier. That was it. This couldn’t be it, right? You couldn’t be supposed to feel like this.

Yelena’s words popped up in your head. When she wanted to convince you to stay, all those years ago. You’ve been friends, best friends even. And occasionally, you made out when you’re drunk, while you fully ignored the butterflies in your stomach. She had felt it, too. It was the reason that your friendship had ended when you met your husband. But now, every night, you couldn’t stop missing her.

An hour later, you stood in your kitchen, pouring another glass of wine, looking through the old pictures and videos of you two. With a heavy heart, you opened a chat with her number, typing in a few words. ”You were right.” She would probably ignore you. She had every right to, after what you had done. But it was the first time that you had admitted it in front of yourself and her. It was way past midnight, she was probably asleep anyways. Just when you finished your third glass and decided to go back to bed and forget about it, your phone made a sound. It was a message from her.

    ”I told you so.”
