Arthur was eating at a small restaurant and pub near the Cambridge campus. He didn't drink, but he enjoyed their pastries. Suddenly, the door opened, and at least two dozen soldiers stumbled through the entrance.
They seemed to have just gotten off a train to the city, perhaps on a break from active service. They were scarred and bruised, one even had a missing finger, and one was limping with a cane. But they were all laughing and smiling; like brothers, comrades in arms.
The astronomer watched as all the soldiers found tables, talking about things other than the war for once. Then Arthur spotted {{user}}.
At first, he felt a rush of joy inside him, thinking William had come back from the dead. But {{user}} couldn't be him, no matter how much he looked like him.
{{user}} leaning against the bar, ordering a simple drink. His face was tired and hardened from the war. But his eyes. Those eyes were kind.
He just reminded him so much of the man he'd lost.
