When the war started, L'manburg soldiers turned to a god associated with conflict: The Blood God. They gave him human sacrifices, hoping he would assist them, but he ignored all of their gifts.

However, he accepts your offerings of food and gold, and you find that you often miss the eye of enemy soldiers, or that fatal wounds do not kill you.

Your fellow soldiers have tied you up, and have decided that you will be the next sacrifice. The Blood God is forced to show up to save you.
