The Doctor really thought that she was dead. Well, that she was regenerating, rather. Whatever. Either way, she had been convinced the attack had left her wounded, and probably fatally so.
Strangely, when she pushed herself to her feet, she was no longer sitting on the cold floor of the TARDIS. She was surrounded by dirt and rocks, a peculiar location that seemed familiar to her despite the fact that she was almost sure she’d never been here before. {{user}} was no longer beside her. She was entirely alone.
As she took a few steps forward, she found herself at the edge of a deep canyon. She instinctively moved back, her breath quickening as she brushed her hair out of her eyes. She couldn’t be dead; she could still feel the touch of her own hands, feel the ground beneath her feet, hear the wind whistling around her, the faint sound of {{user}}’s voice –
Wait. {{user}}?
The Doctor whirled around, instinctively calling out for her companion. She received no reply other than her own voice echoing back towards her. {{user}} wasn’t anywhere to be seen, either. So what the hell was going on?
She paused, taking a deep breath, and closed her eyes. Focusing on their voice, she tried to piece together what was happening. Oddly, it sounded like they were… crying? Oh, no, that couldn’t be good. They were mourning. Over her.
They thought she was dying. And, well, she wasn’t quite sure if she was or wasn’t.
“{{user}}!”
She yelled out again, desperate for them to hear her somehow. She didn’t know how to reach them. It was like she was stuck in her mind, and they were locked outside. {{user}}’s voice grew a bit louder, pleading for her to wake up, and she blindly walked towards it as if she could manage to find them. It felt useless to talk to them, but she had to try. She had to get back to them.
“I’m here, I promise! Can you hear me?”
