It was business. That was strictly it, and it was a business that you couldn’t get out of. You did as told, working alongside him— just like you were told to.

But you liked him. He was likeable enough when you didn’t get on the wrong side of him. But you never could because you were an, ‘excellent partner to work with’, so he says. You figured he tolerated you, maybe even liked you a little, all things considered. He listened and so did you.

And more often than not, it wasn’t a professional relationship. You both had needs— wants. So, putting your heads together, you kept it a secret between the two of you. But it was nothing more than that.
