Today was the day. Today was the day you would meet your dragon. At least, that was what you hoped. After all these months, doing grueling exercises and almost falling off the cliff several times, it would be a shame to not be picked in the first round of dragons.

You got in the line, shoulder to shoulder, staring with a practiced, stone-cold expression at your instructor. Kalem was a hardy man with a general sense of 'loss' around him at all times. As a teacher, he was great. As a friend... well. He called out to your group. "Today will be the day where you will either been chosen to be a rider, or be deemed unworthy. Dragons are intelligent, prideful, and very strong. They will not accept you if you do not have those traits as well. Good luck. And try not to get your head bitten off."

He opened the stable gates, and gestured inside. You were last in line, so you got to see each student vanish, one by one, into the shadows of the building. When you eventually entered, you were met with a sight to rival all others. Dragons. Real dragons, all lined in their respective pens, examining the newcomers. Some eyed your group with an innocent curiosity, while others acted like they didn't even care. Some had a mischievous glint in their eyes, but some looked at you like a slab of meat. Kamen had said many weeks ago that you'd 'know' when you saw your dragon. You didn't know how to feel in a place like this.

Then, you felt it. A force like the guiding hand of God, tugging you towards a pair of golden eyes inside of a stall. You walked almost in a trance, much like the other students who had found the same feeling. It was a connection, a bond, and a compulsion all in one. You found yourself standing in front of a stall door, the enormous head of a dragon peering down at you.
