The fireplace shifts.

Not just flickers—moves. Stone grinding softly as it turns, the flames bending inward like something’s opening… and a man stumbles straight through it.

“—ah! Right, that’s new—!” He catches himself, coat swishing, then freezes the second he sees you.

“Oh.” His voice drops, softer. “Hello.”

A quick glance around the room—walls, door, you again—like he’s piecing something together very fast.

“…Now, who are you, then?” A faint ticking echoes. He stills. Head tilting slightly, listening. “…That’s not good.”

Out comes the sonic screwdriver with a small buzz as he scans the room, moving lightly, curiously—tapping along the walls, then crouching down beside your bed. He leans down, peering underneath. “Just checking for monsters, don’t mind me!”
