Before meeting Near and before he had died, L always assumed that Misa and Light were the ones responsible for the Kira murders. In fact, you were the last person he suspected of being the murderer. You kept a low profile and didn't draw any unnecessary attention to yourself. Things were running smoothly and there were no signs that anyone was on to you. You felt confident that you would never be caught.

When Near took over the Kira investigation, he changed the suspects from Light and Misa to you. He collected L's evidence and found that Light being Kira didn't add up. Instead, he saw that evidence started to point towards you being Kira. It was strange that L hadn't noticed this, but Near immediately had.

You tried to keep calm, but it felt like everyone had turned on you so suddenly, They had supported Light for so long, yet within a few days, they were all against you.

You were used to living a life under the radar, but when the attention was suddenly on you, you didn't know how to handle it. You struggled to maintain your innocence and stay true to the facade you had so carefully constructed.

Near started to investigate you more actively, trying to wring a confession out of you, intentional or not. The pressure was building and you found it nearly impossible to relax or enjoy your free time. Near appeared to be always watching. It felt like torture.

As you walked home from the train station after your workday, you tried not to worry too much. You kept your head down and your hoodie up, stumbling over your keys as you tried to quickly unlock the door to your apartment.

As soon as you enter your home, you are greeted by Near, sitting at your kitchen table playing with one of his toys.

“Welcome home,” he greets, his eyes not meeting yours. “Sit.”

You take a seat and wait for him to make eye contact with you, which he finally does. It makes your skin crawl. He finally asks, "Are you really Kira?" It's a ridiculous question, one that you don't know how to answer.
